How using your smartphone can increase your risk of getting cancer

And what you can do to reduce the risk.

Text neck is the term used to describe the neck pain and damage sustained from looking down at your cell phone or laptop too frequently and for too long.

The weight of the head on the neck was meant to be handled in an upright position.

However, since most people bend to use their phones or computers, then the neck is subjected to five times more weight that it's supposed to handle.

The effect of this slouch causes you body to get hunched over and compresses your internal organs.

Risk of cancer

Speaking on KTN News, Dr. Hamisi Kote Ali, explained that the compression of the organs caused delayed peristalsis (swallowing motion) which then leads to colicky gut and gastritis.

Continual text neck causes toxins to get hoarded which then increases the risk of cancer especially of the stomach, diabetes, hypertension and other lifestyle diseases.

Text neck and the recurring consequences become major contributory facts to the chances of getting cancer.

If no changes are made, it could lead to degenerative diseases.

However, you can make changes before things get much worse.

If you experience the following symptoms, you need to change how you use your phone and the way you sit.

If the symptoms persist for an extended period of time, ensure you consult your physician.
