Home remedies for swollen tonsils

Before you buy antibiotics, try these

Honey

We have all experienced tonsillitis at one point of our lives. This is when the tonsils at the back of the throat become swollen. Basically, the reason why tonsils become swollen is because they’re meant to catch and fight bacteria and in the process of doing that, they also become infected. The most common type of tonsillitis is what is known as strep throat. You can treat this with medicines, but there are also home remedies to soothe the pain in the throat and also cure the tonsillitis.

The symptoms of tonsillitis include:

-Sore throat

-Fever

-Chills

-Difficulty or painful swallowing

-Raspy voice

-Bad breath

-Headache

-Neck and jaw tenderness

Tonsillitis can be very painful and frustrating because with very swollen tonsils, one cannot even speak or eat and swallow food and drinks properly and that’s why you cannot ignore the infection. Now, here are home remedies for swollen tonsils:

1. Lemon juice.

Drinking lemon juice can help the body fight the infection and also ease the pain that comes with sore throat. Drink as much fresh lemon juice as you need to feel better.

2. Honey.

Honey is great for killing bacteria and also helps cure sore throat. Mix four tablespoons of pure honey in a glass of warm to hot water and drink the whole cup. Repeat 2-3 times a day to feel better.

3. Turmeric.

Turmeric helps keep the swelling down and also kills the harmful bacteria. To use, put a pinch of turmeric in a cup of coconut milk and drink it.

4. Ginger tea.

Ginger tea is another thing that can bring down the swelling and help soothe the pain. Crush a small cube of ginger into a cup of boiling water and then let it cool off, and drink the tea. You can add a bit of honey to taste.

5. Gargle with salt and warm water.

Mix a tablespoon of salt with warm water then gargle and spit repeatedly at least 5 times twice a day.
