Kiambu County has been ranked as the hub of criminal activities with the highest number of crimes towering at 6,006.

Meru County comes in second with 5,117 cases filed while Nairobi is third with 4,954 criminal activities reported.

The survey also showed that compared to 2015, the number of crimes in Machakos County had increased by 991 cases.

On the other hand, Bungoma, Trans-Nzoia and Kisumu recorded high declines in reported crimes at 430, 324 and 267, respectively, in 2016.

According to the report, the number of female criminals had increased from 20.7 percent to 22.1 percent.

Overall, the number of persons reported to have committed crime increased by 3.8 percent from 70,515 in 2015 to 73,221 in 2016.

At the same time, Uasin Gishu County had the highest decline in the number of persons reported to have committed crime.

The survey highlighted that stealing was the second most common type of crime committed in Kenya with 10,361 cases reported in 2016.

Offences against morality came in second at 6,228 reported cases while dangerous drugs, and criminal damage stood at 6,160 and 4,307 respectively.

The survey comes days after a report on the dangerous criminal gangs terrorising residents in Nairobi.

The gangs comprising of teenage boys operate in different areas including Eastleigh where they call themselves Superpower, in Kayole they are identified as Gaza boys, The 40 brothers (City Centre), Usiku Sacco (Umoja), Msako Empire located in Huruma among others.
