So what happens when you accidentally forget to turn off the details of your tax returns on your computer when you went to work this morning?

Do you instantly go into a panic because your wife will figure out all your financial details or do you relax knowing very well that you do not mind sharing your financial details with her?

The amount of money you earn is a very personal matter for any earning Kenyan out there, which makes it completely understandable if you do not feel like sharing how much you earn with every Tom, Dick and Harry.

The question of whether to share your financial details with your significant other however remains a tricky question that couples have to face when moving forward with their future.

With money being one of the top ranking reasons behind divorce rates in Kenya, you may want to reconsider sharing your financial information with your spouse.

Speaking to Plive.co.ke, Mr Ochieng (name changed) cited trust and more specifically honesty as one of the core pillars of marriage.

“When it comes to finances, you need to be open and honest with your significant other. There’s no two ways about it.”

He further went on to explain that choosing to keep your financial information to yourself could lead to damaging the trust in your relationship with your significant other.

“Having been married for over 30 years, which is a long time, I am constantly learning who my significant other is. So trust and honesty is a very big deal when it comes to building a strong foundation for your marriage.”

So it is safe to say that when it comes to financial matters in a marriage, couples should stop treating marriages as business transactions and be honest and open with each other.
