Buying a car is not as expensive as maintaining it. If you buy a car that is not reliable, you could end up spending a lot of money in repairs and spares. Therefore here are the cars you should avoid, should you opt for a used car.
Here are 6 of the worst used cars to buy in Kenya:
1. Mitsubishi lancer GDI
If you are looking for a used car to buy, avoid the Mitsubishi GDi because the car has a big problem of maintenance. Its engine has no fuel filters because they are in-built. It is actually recommended that if the engine breaks down, you should buy another one.
When idling, the engine sputters out of life.
2. Toyota Caldina
One of the reasons to highly avoid a used Toyota Caldina is its faulty electrical systems. It is quite pricey to maintain it yet you will experience rampant engine problems. The resale value is usually less than 65 per cent.
3. Nissan Murano
However beautiful and attractive it may be, it is ridden with a starting problem. When traveling for long distances, the engine will fail to start if it is switched off. That means that if you stop for lunch, you should leave the engine running. Critics have complained that during the long journeys, the engine stalls indefinitely. The starter will ignite but the engine won’t revive to life.
4. Nissan B15
The car is not expensive to maintain however users have really blasted the car for its overheating engine. The transmission is also very unreliable.
5. BMW 330i/335i
Though the BMWs are praised for prestige and good performance, it has serious problems in its fuel system. Its major and minor engine problems and an unreliable hardware and audio system.
6. Land Rover Freelander
Land Rover made the Freelander for off-road ability. However it has engine problems such that the engine harness may chase and end up failing. This will cause a ripple effect on its cooling fans, fuel pumps and anti-lock braking. The handbrake is has been criticized for not being tight and firm enough.
