These are places you will probably never see but you would love to

“Come, come, step over the threshold,” the eerily beautiful people say, “come spend your money.”

But there are other places that are the complete opposite of a tourist destination. Regular folks like you and me are prohibited from setting foot in. They are a forbidden attraction to the curious.

Here are 12 places you will never be allowed to visit.

Area 51| Nevada, USA

It is a testing facility for experimental aircraft and weapons. However, conspiracy theorists will have you believe they are keeping aliens there and conducting experiments on them and alien aircrafts.

This is followed by the crash that happened in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947 which locals believed to have been a UFO that was carrying aliens.

Tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang| Lintong District, China

This is a mausoleum that dates back to 246BC when construction began. The tomb is shaped like an incomplete pyramid.

It is the tomb of the first Chinese Emperor, Qin Shi Huang who died in 210BC.

Ise Grand Shrine| Mie Prefecture, Japan

This is a shrine dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu. It has two main shrines and 125 secondary shrines.

Access is restricted to all except the High Priestess or Priest who has to be a member of the Japanese Imperial Family.

Vatican Secret Archives| Vatican City, Italy

It holds the history of the acts of the Holy See along with state papers, official documents and letters including correspondence from Michelangelo, Mary Queen of Scots while she was awaiting her execution and King Henry the VIII’s request for an annulment. Access is only allowed to scholars from selected schools or research institutes who have gone through rigorous scrutiny.

Snake Island| Brazil

Also known as Ilha de Queimada Grande, the snake island is- as the name suggests- an island filled with snakes. The snake is the golden lancehead viper. The island is home to thousands of them.

The Brazilian government has protected the island and only scientists are allowed.

North Sentinel Island| Bay of Bengal, India

This is an island which is part of the Andaman Islands. The North Sentinel Island is forbidden due to the people who stay there. The Sentinelese are hostile to any external contact and are the only tribe that remains fully untouched by modern civilization.

Nothing is known about them and the island appears to be a permanent mystery as the Indian government has the place protected as a sovereign entity.

Surtsey| Vestmannaeyjar Archipelago, Iceland

It is an island that was created due to a volcanic eruption between 1963 and 1967.

Only scientists are allowed on the island who are studying how a brand new island becomes a habitat.

Bohemian Grove| California, USA

This area is a private camp ground that belongs to the Bohemian group where the world’s richest men go to misbehave. It is said that they engage in acts of debauchery and hedonism- partying in ways only regular civilians can only imagine.

The area is completely protected with trespassers actually facing prosecution.

Lascaux Caves| Dordgone, France

These are complex caves in Western France which have over 600 paintings of flora and fauna depicting life in the Late Stone Age.

The cave was blocked from public access in 1963 to protect them from human interference as visitors would attempt to add their own drawings to the cave drawings.

Svalbard Global Seed Vault| Norway

This is a storage facility that stores the world’s global supply of seeds to be used in the event of a global disaster.

It was opened in 2008 and stores almost a million samples of over 4,000 species of seeds from around the world.

Chapel of the Tablet| Axurn, Ethiopia

This chapel is said to hold the Ark of the Covenant. Only the guardian of the Ark is allowed to enter.
