When asked if the Game of Thrones ending will influence the outcome of the book series, he simply said: "No, it doesnt. It doesnt change anything at all... You cant please everybody, so youve got to please yourself."
George R.R. Martin Just Revealed How the 'Game of Thrones' Ending Will Influence the Books
The dust (and ash) has finally settled on the Game of Thrones series finale, and George R.R. Martin, for one, is glad. In a recent interview with The Guardian , Martin spoke about how writing has become easier now that he's out from under the pressure of the HBO behemoth, and explained how the remaining novels in his A Song of Ice and Fire series will be affected by the events of the TV show's divisive final season. In short: they won't.
"I dont think [the TV series] was very good for me," he continued. "The very thing that should have speeded me up actually slowed me down. Every day I sat down to write and even if I had a good day Id feel terrible because Id be thinking: 'My God, I have to finish the book. Ive only written four pages when I should have written 40.'" (Whether or not he'll write any more quickly once the highly-anticipated prequel starts airing remains to be seen._
Martin didn't comment on the controversial way the show ended, saying that he removed himself from the online discourse while the last season was airing, but he did hint that a few of those fan theories might come to pass in future books: "Some of [the theories] are right and some of [the theories] are wrong. Theyll find out when I finish."
