In the epic Game of Thrones love triangle, Brienne initially chose Jaime over Tormund. Tormund was broken up. But could there be a second wind? The Game of Thrones series finale airs this Sunday.
Is There Still Hope for Brienne and Tormund's 'Game of Thrones' Romance?
Warning: The following post contains spoilers for Game of Thrones all the way up to the series finale. If you don't want to know what happens, stop reading now.
The last time we saw Brienne of Tarth on Game of Thrones, she was in tears.
Brienne is not only one of the most complete, well-rounded characters Game of Thrones ever had, but she's also one of the show's most certifiable badasses. With that, we're holding out hope that she has a few last moments of glory in Thrones' super-sized finale-and maybe a little bit of romantic resolution as well.
With Jaime Lannister's untimely-and in many ways, unbefitting -death at the end of last week's episode, "The Bells," there's only one suitor remaining for the newest knight in Westeros, and he's got a big red beard and loves to drink giants' milk.
Following the Battle of Winterfell, Tormund seemed like a defeated man when he saw Brienne leave the room with Jaime in "The Last of the Starks." His usual gregarious personality, at least momentarily, was a little bit downtrodden.
"And after all that, this f-er comes north and takes her from me, just takes her, like that," Tormund told The Hound. "I mean it, Clegane-my heart is broken."
But now that Brienne has lost Jaime-( well, maybe ...)-could she change her tune, recalibrating some of that newfound emotion back toward an eccentric mountain man warrior? It's a major question.
80 minutes of story remain to wrap up all of Game of Thrones' loose ends. Surely we can sacrifice 5 to 7 of those minutes to bring Brienne and Tormund together, right? Let them find their way to King's Landing together and take out a few of the Unsullied together, then celebrate with some drinks out of a big horn. It'll feel right. We all know it. We all want it. LET IT HAPPEN.
