Ryan Reynolds Just Cast the Peloton Ad Wife in a Hilarious Commercial for His Gin

If you've been online this week, then you've seen the discourse surrounding Peloton's holiday commercial, in which a husband gifts his wife with an exercise bike and then she documents her progress with a look of ever-intensifying panic in her eyes. The ad was described as sexist and borderline dystopian by viewers, with a number of tweets comparing the entire premise to an episode of Black Mirror.

'Peleton Wife' Stars in Another Hilarious Viral Ad

Just one day after the ad aired, the Peloton brand lost a staggering $942 million in market value. Sean Hunter , who played the husband in the ad, has distanced himself from the campaign, telling Good Morning America: "My image is being associated with sexism, with the patriarchy, with abuse, for example. Thats not who I am."

As with so many things, our attention span towards Christmas ads is fairly short, and under other circumstances we might have all eventually forgotten about it.

Ryan Reynolds , however, had other plans. The Deadpool star sought out actress Monica Ruiz, who played the wife in the commercial, to star in a new ad for his Aviation Gin brand. That by itself is great news; a jobbing actor found a new gig amid the wreckage of her previous ad campaign. What makes it even sweeter is that Ruiz is playing the same character.

"You're safe here," the unnamed woman's friend tells her supportively, as she stares into space following her ordeal. It reads like a scene from a Lifetime drama, with the only allusion to the gin brand being Ruiz's comment that it's "really smooth" as she gulps it down, presumably to drown her many, many sorrows.

This isn't the first time Reynolds has thrown away the playbook when it comes to marketing his brand. In June, he wrote an elaborate fictitious review of his gin on Amazon under the pseudonym "Ry Champ Nightengale," describing one hell of a night.
