There's One Survivor Season That Didn't Have a Merge: Palau

In Survivor , the merge marks a turn in gameplay. Contestants have to start winning immunity challenges on their own, and alliances will either shift or strengthen as time goes on. And of course, the merge always starts with a big ol' feast for the castaways. The merge has been a Survivor mainstay since the show first premiered in 2000, and out of the 38 seasons of the show, only one season hasn't had a merge.

Only One 'Survivor' Season Didn't Have a Merge

Survivor: Palau (Season 10) is the only Survivor season to skip the merge. The season started with a schoolyard pick for tribes, and the two contestants not chosen were immediately eliminated. The two tribes were named Koror and Ulong, and they each had nine players.

But as time went on, it was clear that Ulong was the weaker tribe of the two, as the tribe had a lack of teamwork. They lost every immunity challenge in the first 21 days, until there were just two tribe members left. After they lost another immunity challenge, Bobby Jon Drinkard and Stephenie LaGrossa had a fire-making competition to determine who would go home, and Stephenie ended up winning.

Since she was now a tribe of one, Stephenie was given instructions to travel to Koror, and she was absorbed into their tribe. Unfortunately, she only survived two votes before being voted out by the members of Koror, as they saw her as an outsider.

This season featured the first fire-making tiebreaker challenge, and Exile Island was also introduced for the first time. Additionally, this season featured the longest-ever immunity challenge , as the final challenge lasted for almost 12 hours.
