In newly released concept art by Stephen Schirle for Avengers: Endgame, Fury is shown being killed in a confrontation with Thanos' Black Order. In a moment that mirrors the death of Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) at the hands of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in the first Avengers movie, Fury is stabbed from behind by Corvus Glaive (Michael Shaw).

Of course, this wouldn't have been the first time Fury died in the MCU. The character was originally presumed dead following the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier , before it was revealed that he had faked his death in order to evade HYDRA. Then, in a post-credits scene in Avengers: Infinity War, he was shown dying as a result of the Snap, which eradicated half of all life in the universe.

In the final cut of Endgame, Fury was brought back to life along with everybody else when the surviving Avengers reassembled the Infinity Gauntlet, and was present at Tony Stark's funeral, before going on to appear in Spider-Man: Far From Home .

The extent to which Fury will be involved in the next phase of the MCU remains to be seen, but Jackson himself has said that he is happy to play the super-spymaster well into his 80s .
