Mitchelle Obama’s message to all mothers is a must share

How you raise your sons matter and Michelle Obama has a few wise words for you.

This rings true in most households and you can see it in in society’s different expectations for women and men. ‘Traditionally’ women all over the world are taught about submission and obedience before they are taught about self-worth and individuality.

Well, the former First Lady of the US Michelle Obama is tired of the bias and has addressed the matter. Her speech was exactly what we needed to hear.

During a summit discussion with poet Elizabeth Alexander on the value of having female friends, Michelle stole the show with a very thought striking advice that we just had to share.

She said,

“The problem in the world today is that we love our boys and we raise our girls. We raise them strong and sometimes we take care not to hurt men. And I think we pay for that a little bit and that’s a we thing because we are raising them, and it’s powerful to have strong men but what does that strength mean? Does it mean respect? Does it mean responsibility? Does it mean compassion? Or are we protecting our men too much, so they feel a little entitled? And a little, you know, a little self-righteous sometimes, but that’s kind of on us, too as women and mothers as we nurture men and push girls to be perfect.”

This rings true to the society that we live in, women are taught how to nurture and cater to men, give them the best of love, food and time while neglecting themselves. Statements like, “give my son the best pieces of meat” are the norm in our households. As mothers, it’s our duty to redefine what “strength” means for our next generation of boys.”

Michelle also discussed the power of having female friends in your circle. According to the globally respected woman of power, having female friends is what kept her in check during her tenement as the First Lady of a first world state.

She said, “Women, we do it better than men, I’m, you know, sad for you guys. Y’all should get you some friends. Get you some friends and talk to each other, ‘cause that’s the other thing we do; we straighten each other out on some things.”

You’ve got to give it to her, Michelle’s very sobering speech was an important message that should be shared with every woman in the world. No, we are not saying that men should not be themselves but it’s high time we go back to nurturing cultured and well-disciplined respectful gents that we can be proud of.
