“I will Ban Rongai Matatus” Threatens Dr. Kidero

Nairobi Governor, Dr. Evans Kidero threatens to ban all public service vehicles plying Nairobi – Rongai route.

Nairobi Governor, Dr. Evans Kidero has threatened to ban all public service vehicles plying Nairobi – Rongai route citing disregard of traffic rules, county tax non-compliance, indiscipline crews, to stepping on his kidero grass (now dry).

In a meeting held on Wednesday with Rongai Matatu owners, Governor Kidero pointed out that despite the Sacco doing a flourishing business and reeking in millions of Kenya shillings,  Rongai Matatu’s were also non complaint in paying the seasonal  parking fees which serves as revenue to the county.

“You are making over 228 million a month running a very serious business in this town but you are the most non-compliant people in paying rates” Dr, Kidero charged.

Should Dr. Kidero makes true his threat Rongai matatu will not be allowed to enter the CBD, rather they will drop passengers at Bangladesh near multimedia university where another Matatu will then pick up the passengers and drop them in town.

This is not the first time however Rongai Matatus  have been threatened with a ban, on the month of September, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) took the Sacco to court demanding for its de-registration after one of its vehicles was involved in a grisly accident along Langatta road killing four passengers and injuring over 20 others.

Despite the ‘notorious tag’ Rongai matatu’s are some of the most popular Matatus in Nairobi especially among the youth. They are loud, colorful, full of graffiti and come equipped with added amenities such as Wi-Fi, charging ports and flat size screens.
