Positive vibe only. How to keep the negativity in check

Happiness is not a destination. It's a life-long journey.

Most often than not, happiness is confused to feeling good all the time. It’s also been associated to having many friends and lots of money (Not that there is any objection to this. By all means, work towards your wealth).

However true happiness as defined by Happify Daily is, “…a combination of how satisfied you are with your life (for example, finding meaning in your work) and how good you feel on a day-to-day basis. Both of these are relatively stable that is, our life changes, and our mood fluctuates, but our general happiness is more genetically determined than anything else.”

It’s not something you can store either. To achieve ‘constant’ happiness means working towards it every day. The balance is not as easy as it seems to achieve but with a little psychological training, an hour or two at the gym you and a healthy diet, you may begin your never ending journey to happiness while still being happy.

So how do you stay happy?

1. Hold  genuine conversations

No, dishing on your friend’s latest boy drama doesn’t cut it. Talk to people who don’t dull your shine when you’ve done something good. Holding genuine conversations allows you to take a break from the many societal demands to look cool and just be you. The version of yourself that you are most comfortable in.

2. Keep a log of affirming quotes

Instead of scrolling the web for the perfect dark meme that describes your anger, write down feel good quotes that alleviate your moods and make you positive about your situation. You can either dine with the devil or kick him the hell out.

3. Look for your happy place

Be it mental space or an actual physical place, having a place to retreat to once things get tough allows you to calm down and think through your problem instead of stewing.

4. Find a project

Having something of your own that you are working on gives you something to look forward to and be excited about. Also the thought of accomplishment brings a sense of achievement that works wonders in the feel good sector.

5. Laugh

You’ve probably heard this a lot of times, but laughter is indeed the best medicine. Are you feeling low? Go watch a cat video or your favorite stand-up comedy. Laughter elevates the heavy feeling that you get when you’re upset. It is also a source of pleasure for the brain.

The list is endless but once you start smiling more, you’ll realize a change in your lifestyle. Heck, you might even start enjoy that job you really dread going to every morning.
