Valentine's Day 2018 was one fraught with worries of brokeness.

With Njaanuary 's problems spilling over into February, it was no surprise that this year's Valentine's was highly understated.

Women all over social media were posting about why their significant others weren't around and some of them were really- something.

1. Evening classes

One Facebook user reported that her boyfriend would be starting his evening classes that he just applied for. On that very Valentine's Day.

2. Disappearing acts

These guys went offline for no reason, gave no explanation. It is as yet unknown whether they are still in relationships.

3. "Yote ni vanity"

"I don't celebrate Valentine's because it doesn't go with my values."

4. "I was in jail"

Some men have gone as far as saying that they have been arrested by the police for a minor misdemeanour and are only waiting for a bailout that will arrive over the course of the night or the day after Valentine's.

But these guys got schooled when it was made clear that jail shouldn't be an excuse.

5. "I was celebrating Ash Wednesday"
