The Mavuno church has come under fire following a sermon series titled Uncensored: God’s text on Sex and dating, which it has been focusing on for a month now.
Mavuno Church Sex Sermon sparks controversy
Mavuno angers Kenyans with tweets from the sex sermon
The church was heavily attacked after tweets of their last sermon were posted online seemingly comparing rape to a loveless sex.
“If sex is only physical why is that when children are sexually abused, they find it difficult to shake it off?.
“If sex is only physical why is it that rape is so devastating to a woman that she often chooses to hide it? ,” some of the tweets read.
Kenyans on social media were irked by the tweets with some shaming the church for comparing the evil to sex.
Mavuno, however, came out to clear the air highlighting that the tweets had been taken out of context.
In a statement the church mentioned that: “It is possible that those reading the tweets in isolation may have thought we are equating sex with rape or with abuse of minors. But that is the farthest thing from the truth”.
The church highlighted that the main objective of the sermon was to help those who were single or dating and desire to enter into marriage to have successful long-lasting relationships.
The church apologised to those who were offended by the tweets and asked them to attend the church to listen to the sermon in its entirety.
“We would like to apologize to anyone who may have read the tweets and felt hurt or offended by them”.
Despite the apology, some Kenyans still felt that Mavuno had not done enough.
