Make no mistake. At Navarro College, cheerleading is a serious sport . The community college has won several national and grand national titles under its current head coach, Monica Aldama. While fans are loving the realistic look at cheeringand the sheer athleticism that goes into itthey're also wildly eager to be in on one secret of competitive cheering that isn't explained in the series:
What the heck does FIOFMU mean?
after binging cheer on netflix i truly feel like i am personally part of the navarro team, so #FIOFMU whatever the heck that means ally (@ally_sheehan)
The acronym shows up plenty of times in Cheer. Team members write it on their arms and have practice uniforms emblazoned with "FIOFMU" that they wear on the reg. It's also frequently added as a hashtag to the cheerleaders' posts on Instagram and Twitter.
Through all of this, there has been few clues as to what "FIOFMU" actually stands for. A definition on Urban Dictionary that has since been removed claimed it stands for "Fight it out f*** em up," but for now, at least, the Navarro College team isn't offering much insight.
In fact, FIOFMU might be Navarro College's best-kept secret.
Kayla Culver, who identifies herself as a Navarro cheerleader on Twitter , did offer this explanation: "#FIOFMU is a coded message/motto, that you learn and earn throughout the year while on the team. Learning the meaning is entirely special and is only known by Navarro Cheerleaders and Navarro Cheer alumni"
I guess when you're a team that dominates as much as Navarro College, you've probably earned the right to keep a few secrets.
