Anger after Matiangi’s confession on dreaded militia

Matiang'i admitted that he was a member of a dreaded militia.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has shocked a section of Kenyans after he admitted his association with an illegal criminal gang.

Matiang’i was caught on tape during a Jubilee rally in South Mugirango where he assured locals that the October 26 election would go on without interruption.

Speaking in vernacular, Matiang’i stated that as the person in charge of security, he would not be cowed or intimidated as he was a true warrior.

He also claimed to be a member of the dreaded criminal gang, Chinkororo.

"You all know we have Chinkororohere. And they are the ones protecting our border. What can someone tell me, a person who comes from the border? Is that what you want? Whoever is joking doesn't know Chinkororo. I am Enkororo from here.

“Whoever wants to stop you from voting here, I am the one in charge of security and I will ask police to look the other side so that you slap that person," Matiang’i.

Chinkororo which translates to “we will rain on you” is a criminal gang that was inspired by traditional warriors of the Kisii community.

In the past, the feared gang was used in times of ethnic conflict to protect the Abagusii families of Borabu and Gucha districts. Matiang’i was born and brought up in Borabu.

Interestingly, the Interior CS spoke in the company of his boss Deputy President William Ruto who has been a victim of the Chinkororo during the divisive 2007 campaigns.

Ruto had gone to campaign in Kisii when the Chinkororo attacked his convoy with arrows and clubs.
