The morning incident occurred at Bonje as the bus was heading towards Mariakani.
An eyewitness who is a motorcycle rider, explained that the lorry was heading towards Mombasa when the driver abruptly applied the emergency brakes in order to avoid hitting another lorry that had stopped suddenly.

“It had a head on collision with the staff bus, killing two people on the spot. Several others were injured and taken to hospital. I will issue more details once I get them," stated Ndonga.
One of the staff members who survived the crashed noted that the mistake was with the lorry as the driver of they were on the correct lane.
The driver of the bus was among the injured as he had a broken arm and thigh.

Six people died while eight others were injured in a road accident in August last year after a matatu slammed into a parked road at Shauri Moyo area along the Mombasa-Malindi highway.
The injured were rushed to the Kilifi County Referral Hospital in critical condition.
Among the dead was a two-year-old child who died on arrival to the hospital.
