2 dead after lorry collision with staff bus

Two people on Thursday died while several others were injured after a lorry collided with a Buzeki transport company staff bus in Kilifi County.

The morning incident occurred at Bonje as the bus was heading towards Mariakani.

An eyewitness who is a motorcycle rider, explained that the lorry was heading towards Mombasa when the driver abruptly applied the emergency brakes in order to avoid hitting another lorry that had stopped suddenly.

Rabai OCPD Michael Ndonga confirmed that the two passengers died on the spot after the brakes of the lorry failed.

"The lorry was driving towards Mombasa and on reaching Bonje its brakes failed and it veered off the road towards the other lane.

“It had a head on collision with the staff bus, killing two people on the spot. Several others were injured and taken to hospital. I will issue more details once I get them," stated Ndonga.

One of the staff members who survived the crashed noted that the mistake was with the lorry as the driver of they were on the correct lane.

The driver of the bus was among the injured as he had a broken arm and thigh.

Driver to be charged for cause death

Six people died while eight others were injured in a road accident in August last year after a matatu slammed into a parked road at Shauri Moyo area along the Mombasa-Malindi highway.

The injured were rushed to the Kilifi County Referral Hospital in critical condition.

Among the dead was a two-year-old child who died on arrival to the hospital.
