8-month old baby tests positive for coronavirus

An eight month old baby has tested positive for Covid-19 after the father recently travelled from Kisumu.

The results were announced by the Ugandan Ministry of Health who also stated that the number of people with coronavirus has increased in the country.

On Wednesday, Uganda recorded five new coronavirus cases bringing the total number to 14.

Dr Joyce Moriku Kaducu, Minister of State for Primary Health Care said that two of the five cases are Chinese nationals while the others are Ugandans.

"Dear Ugandans, this is a very critical moment for everyone as the number of positive cases keeps scaling up.

"Five more people have been confirmed positive, including two of the six Chinese that were got in Zombo. They cannot be presented in court for fear of further spread," Dr Kaducu stated.

Increasing cases of Covid-19

East Africa countries continue to register a surge in the number of people affected by coronavirus as the pandemic continues to cause havoc across the globe.

Countries have outlined various measures to ensure the virus is kept at bay and numbers of those affected remain low.

After registering its first case, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni announced that starting Monday, no person will be allowed to enter the country.

In Rwanda, the government, on Saturday, outlined strict measures to contain the spread of the virus including a two-week total lockdown that only excludes emergency services.
