Should Africa see her fit and elect her to be the next AU chairperson, she will be the first Kenyan to hold such a post and the second woman to head AU after Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.
So should she get elected as the next African Union Commission chairperson what will be her immediate agenda?
Here are her top three agenda she promised to deliver for the people of the African continent.
Gender equality
It is no secret that Amb Amina has broken many glass celling’s, therefore she wishes to equal the playing field for both women and men.
Amina made history by becoming the first female foreign affairs minister under the Jubilee adminstration led President Uhuru Kenyatta however she did not stop there; she further shattered the glass ceiling to a million pieces by becoming the first Kenya foreign affairs minister to head the World Trade Organization (WTO) conference held in kenya last year.
“We will prioritise addressing gender inequalities and lowering barriers to women participation in productive activities for transformation and socio-economic processes” Amina said during a past Comesa meeting.
Amina has also promised to aggressively pursue the implementation of Agenda 2063, which was passed under the leadership of Dlamin Zuma
In 2013, the AU passed Agenda 2063, an ambitious document that described how Africa would be self-reliant, developed, educated, politically stable and with equal opportunities for men and women.
A peaceful Africa
Amina’s sterling diplomatic career spanning more than 30 years has equipped her with enough experience and skills to steer Africa to greater heights.
Her wit and lobbying prowess saw her successfully convened key international meetings in Kenya such as the UN Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad) and the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (Ticad).
Should she be elected Amina has promised to improve the African Union's (AU) record on security by supporting free flow of information between regions and work with the African diaspora.
“We will explore sustainable ways of financing Agenda 2063 through concrete mechanisms that ensure optimum use of mobilised resources,” she said as quoted by a local daily.
A prosperous Africa
Being a former Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme and former Ambassador of Kenya to the United Nations at Geneva.
This coupled with her experience in World Trade Organisation (WTO) negotiations as the chair of the ministerial conference will allow her to build Africa’s voice in multilateral trade negotiations and agreements.
Not least of all, through the AU Commission chairperson position, we will make Africa the destination of choice for foreign direct investment (FDI), innovation, trade, industry and tourism,” she told participants at the Comesa member states summit last year in Madagascar as she lobbied for their endorsement.
