ATPU on Monday joined investigations after it was revealed that the men responsible for the attack on Constable Stephen Mukangi and his colleague Constable Samson Morongo were wearing jungle green uniforms.
The two officers were manning their stations as usual when two men in the jungle green uniform approached them asking for help.
Attackers claimed to be police officers
"They told the GSU officers they needed assistance from them at the scene where their car had developed mechanical problems. They claimed to be police officers.
"200 metres from the tower, they were joined by two other men in jungle uniform and a commotion ensued and they were overpowered after gunshots, one of the officers was shot dead and the other was injured," one of the investigating officers told reporters.
Constable Morongo fled the scene with an injury on his foot and has since recorded a statement on the incident and received medical treatment.
The gunmen stole AK47 rifles belonging to the officers and are yet to be recovered.
