AG Edward Ouko wants Governor Sonko to substantiate claims that auditors from his office had sought bribes from the county boss in order to write him a favourable report during the auditing process.
Ouko stated that his office takes integrity seriously and if indeed some staffs are being compromised as Sonko claimed, action will be taken.
Accusations of bribery
During a grilling session with the County Public Accounts and Investment Committee Sonko discredited the report by the AG that flagged outrageous expenses by Nairobi County.
"I shall be willing to make some very sensitive allegations on auditors based in Nairobi," Sonko said at the opening of the session.
“The auditors demanded bribes to write a favourable report... I shall be discrediting the report. I have evidence for each allegation. This (audit report) is a case of a deal gone sour” governor Sonko claimed.
Tampering
He told Senators that Edward Ouko's auditors resorted to incriminating the county government after he declined their demands.
Sonko bribery claims during the audit process, however, prompted the committee to call for further investigations.
The county boss further called for the suspension and investigation of auditors who wrote the 2017/2018 financial reports for Nairobi and Kiambu Counties.
