Popular betting company Betway has announced restoration of its operations in the Kenyan market following clearance from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

The company's license was reinstated by the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) on July 23 but had not been able to resume operations without the KRA clearance.

"We're back online. We're fully operational. 20% Winnings Tax will be deducted off all sport betting payouts. Our paybill number remains the same," a brief statement on its Twitter handle read.

The company was among ten other betting and gaming companies that were cleared at the time, these are: Mozolt Bet, Odi bet, Eastleigh bet, Lucky to you, Ken book makers, Bet boss, Kick off, Easi bet and Palms bet.

In early July, BCLB froze the paybill numbers for a number of betting companies that had been operating in Kenya and further withdrew their operating licenses on claims that the companies were not tax compliant.

SportPesa, Betin yet to be cleared

SportPesa, Betin and BetPawa are among 27 companies BCLB claims are yet to meet their requirements.

"This is a matter before court and we cannot comment on the merits of the same.

"However, the betting companies and KRA are in discussions with a view to resolving the dispute. Once a resolution has been reached, the same will be recorded in court," an official statement from KRA explained.
