Everything was going according to plan for Benjamin Malonza and Faith Nthoki Mutua who had splashed at least Ksh 2 million on their big day until the alleged ex-husband Mwavu Kaleli appeared with a court order just as before the copuple could exchange their vows.
A contingent of police officers stormed the church, barring hundreds of guests, church members and wedding planners who had arrived to witness the couple exchange their vows and ensure that the event was a success.
To the disappointment of the bride and groom, Reverend Samuel Mwania who was to preside over the wedding cancelled the event until a case in court is heard and determined.
“According to the court order, a man who claims to be the ex-husband went to Makindu law courts on April, 25, 2019 with an intention of stopping our wedding and a court order was granted which we have been served with today…I have accepted to stop the activities of the day”, said Rev Mwania.
Attempts to salvage the wedding through intervention of elders proved futile even as the bride and groom read malice in the move.
Paying for bride's education and losses in millions
The lovebirds decried their losses, terming entire process a money waster and well-orchestrated plan by their opponent to spoil their big day, sinking their Sh2m that had been pumped into the event.
“This was a bit malicious, why would he serve us with court papers on the D-Day? We had already done bookings, invitations sent, guests had started trooping in and then this happens.” Lamented the groom.
“I made several announcements before moving to the office of the Attorney General and got a notification to proceed. This complaint at this hour is horrid”, he added.
Reports indicate that the alleged ex-husband is one Mr. Jackson Muthoka, a military police who allegedly paid school fees for the bride (Faith) at the Kenya Medical College (KMTC) with a promise of marrying her.
Muthoka married the bride who currently works as a nurse at Sultan-Hamud sub-County hospital as a second wife under customary procedures and they were blessed with a baby-girl before parting ways.
