Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore

Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore has brought to a stop the giant Telecommunication Company’s succession debate with his Thursday afternoon announcement.

Speaking in a Press Conference at a popular Nairobi hotel, Collymore said he will remain Safaricom CEO until 2020.

He added that his term extension was because of his medical leave that lasted about a year.

His tenure was expected to end in August this year.

I am actually not going anywhere. I owe the company about one year. I am here until the year 2020,” said Collymore.

He added that he owes the telecommunications company the time he spent away from office while battling with cancer.

A few weeks ago, News organization Reuters reported that Bob Collymore planned to step down as Safaricom CEO in August for health reasons, but the Kenyan government had insisted on him being succeeded by a Kenyan.

This according to the Reuters report delayed announcing his replacement at Safaricom.
