Gakuo was among journalists who were invited to cover a press conference by the Council of Governors at their Nairobi-based Delta House headquarters.
The media invitation had indicated that the press conference would start at 12.30 but the county bosses went on with their meeting well past 2.30pm.
Journalists were forced to sleep on the floor as they battled boredom at the CoG’s board room.
When the Governor eventually emerged, Gakuo sought to address them on behalf of journalists before they could continue with their press conference.
“The issue is not the time that your excellencies needed to address the county revenue bill and other important matters. The problem is the media invitation which indicated that we should be here at 12.30. We have waited for more than two and a half hours is really unfair on our side. We do not mind coming here at two if that is the time you will conclude the meeting, a moment’s notice is enough for us,”Gakuo stated matter-of-factly.
The subdued Governors were forced to apologise, asking journalists to understand that they had to discuss matters which they had not foreseen.
“We understand your frustration, but there are some critical issues that come up,” CoG chairperson Wycliffe Oparanya pleaded.
Oparanya was accompanied by several of his counterparts including his deputy Murang’a Wa Iria, Meru’s Kiraitu Murungi, Makueni’s Kivutha Kibwana, among others.
