Wife to Bonface Murage Wangechi, who had been accused of smuggling his daughter out of at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to evade Sh56K hospital bill has finally been allowed to go home after well-wishers intervened and settled the hospital bill.

Two Kenyans identified as Pius and Ms Muthoka came to the rescue of Murage following a public outcry after the man in question was arraigned at Milimani law courts and charged with attempt to escape with his new born baby to defraud a hospital bill of Ksh.56, 937 incurred by the baby who was admitted at the facility.

“At Kenyatta National Hospital, finally the Baby and the mum are free! I am so happy we managed to set the mother free after dad Boniface Murage was arrested trying to run with the baby from KNH,” reads an update from Pius.

Milimani Law Courts

On Monday, appearing before Milimani Law Courts Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe, the 22-year-old man (Boniface Murage) pleaded guilty to the charge saying he was indeed escaping with the baby because he did not have money to settle the bill.

Embakasi East member of Parliament Babu Owino had also offered to help Murage by hiring lawyer Peter Omingo to represent the accused and cater for the expenses out of his own pocket.

The Magistrate ruled to have Murage remanded until Tuesday when the court will hear the charges preferred against him by the prosecution, after which he will be sentenced.
