Traffic at the busy Nakuru-Naivasha highway has been shut down at Stem Hotel near Pipeline area in Nakuru after a tanker ferrying fuel developed spillage.
The police boss added that police and experts had been invited to the scene to control and contain the situation.
Kabururu urged members of the public, who may be tempted to siphon off the oil, to stay off the area until the fuel tanker and the spillage was cleared.
Last Saturday, at least 64 people were killed in Kenya's neighboring country of Tanzania as they attempted to siphon oil from a fuel tanker that had been involved in an accident.
