Senior Police Officer arrested by flying squad

A Chief Inspector of Police is among four people who were arrested on Friday evening for impersonating Immigration officials.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the four; Chief Inspector Kennedy Omondi, Stanilus Otieno, Eddie Obwaka and Boniface Omengi were arrested by Flying Squad detectives as they went to collect a Sh2 million bribe.

Flying Squad Detectives have this evening arrested four people, among them a Chief Inspector of Police, who were impersonating @ImmigrationDept officers. The four; C.I Kennedy Omondi, Stanilus Otieno, Eddie Obwaka & Boniface Omengi were arrested while trying to extort a 2M bribe,” read a tweet from DCI.

The DCI further stated that the four had asked for Sh10 million bribe from complainants who reported the matter.

The suspects who posed as immigration officials confiscated passports and other travel documents before they extorted money from the unsuspecting individuals.

Two suspects managed to escape as the Flying Squad detectives recovered a pistol and several bullets.

The arrests followed a report made by the complainants whose passports&other documents had been confiscated by the said ‘immigration officers.’They asked for a bribe of 10M &were going to collect 2M when they were nabbed by Detectives. Two escaped; Pistol & ammunitions recovered,” said the DCI.
