KNH in a sorry state

Shocking photos and a video of the deplorable state of affairs at Kenyatta National Hospital have surfaced online, revealing the worrying conditions at the hospital’s burn unit.

Exclusive investigations carried out by Nation revealed that the facility is stretched beyond capacity with children recovering from burns forced to sleep on mattresses spread on the floor.

The investigations further revealed that a ward that was initially designed to accommodate 20 patients currently has more than 100 patients with only three nurses to attend to them.

Parents and guardians attending to the recuperating children at the burns unit squeeze in the little space that is left in the overcrowded room during meals.

The team of journalists who visited the facility earlier this week documented the harrowing experience in which they were required to remove their shoes as the there was no space between the mattresses and visitors were forced to walk on the mattress to reach the children.
