Matiang'i forced to make security changes after visit to Uhuru's backyard

Cracking the whip

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiangi has ordered the transfer of security chiefs in Kiambu County after visiting the area.

Locals blamed the police for laxity as CS Matiang'i ordered a major operation in the entire region to flush out a gang that has been terrorizing locals.

The vocal CS castigated security officers after cries by residents who spoke to him on the upsurge in crime in the area which is the president's ancestral home.

Dr Matiang'i apologised to the locals in Kimunyu village and Gatundu for the security lapse and assured residents that he will tackle the issue.

Night attacks

Residents complained that two persons have lost their lives, several raped and valuables worth millions were stolen during late-night break-ins.

Four people believed to be members of the gang that has been terrorizing Kimunyu village and Gatundu residents have since been arrested.

Security has also been beefed up to protect locals who are fearful of being attacked at night.

CS Matiang'i assured residents of Gatundu of their security following a spate of burglary incidents in the area for the past one month.
