Moi underwent a minor surgery at Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi on Friday evening to correct a problem in his knee.
According to Moi's long serving press secretary, Lee Njiru the procedure was to ease pain on the knee.
"After the procedure, performed under local anaesthesia, a hail and hearty Mzee Moi was discharged and is recuperating at his residence," Njiru told the Star on Saturday.
However unlike the past where whenever he has checked into hospital under apseudo nameto erase suspicion, a source at the hospital intimated that it was the first time that Moi was admitted using his real name.
Security was tight at the facility while the 2nde president of Kenya was undergoing treatment.
"He was brought in at around 4pm. There was security all over the place," the source privy to the operation said.
Depending on his choice of hospital, Moi surgery must have been minor since African leaders have a habit of flying oversees for treatment whenever they fell ill.
Despite the rigors of office, Moi has enjoyed stealer health throughout his 24 years term in office and has outlived many leaders who served in his government.
Mzee moi turned 92 years last year September 2 Last year.
Moi joins former President Mwai Kibaki as leaders who have had to check into hospital within the last year.
Kibaki was flown to South Africa for specialised treatment after he fell ill.
Mr Kibaki enjoyed good health most of his adult life and was known to play golf and was an almost permanent fixture in the country club circuit until a 2002 car accident which left him in a wheelchair.
