Former President Mzee Daniel Arap Moi has been admitted at the Nairobi Hospital for an unspecified number of days.

Details given by his Press Secretary Lee Njiru indicate that he reported to the facility on Sunday night and is undergoing a routine medical check-up.

"l can confirm that Mzee Moi visited The Nairobi Hospital for a routine medical check-up. It is prudent for any human being to undergo regular medical check-ups, so there is nothing to worry about," Mr Njiru said.

Mzee checked into the hospital accompanied by his long-serving physician, Dr David Silverstein.

The former President recently marked his 95th birthday quietly as has become his custom since he retired from active politics.

Mzee's family has made a point of keeping his affairs private including the nature of his medical check-ups.

In December 2018, he was also admitted to the hospital for a series of medical tests which were later said to have been okay-ed by his doctor and he was discharged.

Other than his advancing age, the former President has had a number of knee complications that are said to have been caused by his 2006 Limuru accident.
