Father of slain catholic priest killed in Meru speaks out

Fr. Murangiri was stabbed outside a Bar

Slain Catholic priest Eutychus Murangiri.

Father to the slain Catholic priest Eutychus Murangiri, who was stabbed to death outside a Bar in Meru, has spoken for the first time defending the character of his son.

According to Domiciano Muthuri (Murangiri’s father) ,his son was well-behaved and he always advised him to do the Lord’s work so that he can be a good example to his younger siblings.

He also mentioned that Murangiri never had an affair with Janice Ntinyari, the lady who was spotted last with the priest.

"I always told him to do the Lord’s work with diligence so his brothers would also desire the same. I desired that all my children would give themselves to the service of God. I also wish to state that my son was not involved with any woman. We do not even know her or where she is from,” said Domiciano Muthuri.

Reports indicated that the priest had been drinking in the company of a woman now identified as Janice Ntinyari and a friend Valentine Kinoti before he was killed.

Ms Ntinyari told detectives that she had an affair with the priest since 2013 when she was still a college student in Embu.

Suspects detained

On Thursday, a Meru Court allowed police to detain two suspects (Kinoti and Janice Ntinyari) who were arrested in connection with the murder of the priest.

They are said to be the last people to be seen with the priest drinking together at Kinoru Gateway Hotel before he was stabbed to death.

The two appeared before Meru Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Muraguri, who ordered their detention following an affidavit filed by Police officers looking into the murder.

The late Fr Murangiri was a Diocesan priest who had served for one year after his ordination as deacon at the St Pius Seminary, Nkubu, in June last year.
