Drama as Babu Owino is nearly kicked out of live interview by KTN News anchor

Tense moment during last night’s news bulletin

Drama as Babu Owino is nearly kicked out of live interview by KTN News anchor Linda Ogutu

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was on Wednesday evening the subject of a dramatic moment on live TV after he clashed with KTN News Linda Ogutu during the airing of the 9PM bulletin.

Ogutu hosted Owino, in whose constituency JKIA sits, and Chris Diaz – a former KQ Marketing Director who currently works at the East African Business council. The panel was discussing the ongoing crisis at the national airport caused by a proposal to have the airport taken over by Kenya Airways (KQ).

Debate had gone on well despite Owino and Diaz having opposing view. The MP categorically rejected the proposal to have JKIA run by KQ while Diaz argued that such arrangements were being done by other countries to support their national airlines.

However, at one point the Embakasi East MP referred to his fellow panelist as a “liar and a thief”, prompting Ogutu to intervene.

Mheshimiwa Babu Owino, I will not allow you to hurl insults at a guest on air, no…no…no,” Ogutu stated as the legislator continued attacking Diaz’s character.

Civilised Language

Why did you call me on air if you are just saying no, I must speak. If you want me out of your studios, I will give you your stuff,” he said as he made a gesture to remove his mic.

The KTN News journalist insisted that Owino had to use “civilized language” or leave the studio.

The seemingly agitated MP hit back at the host anchor, “what do you know about civilization?” forcing the anchor to take a commercial break.

The panel later resumed and continued with their discussion without drama with Ogutu saying she had convinced the two panelists to be “nice to each other”.
