A few days after stepping down for the earlier proposal to the East African Legislative Assembly by Raila’s brother Oburu Odinga, former aide to Odinga Mr Silas Jakakimba now wants the ODM party to nominate him for the position.

Speaking to the press in his Migori home, Mr Jakakimba has urged the former premier to front him for the top job at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Defending his move, Mr Jakakimba said he will lobby for the interest of the youth at the regional assembly should he be nominated.

“That will be my priority…I will serve the youths who are crossing to neighbouring countries to seek greener pastures,” he said.

NASA Presidential candidate Raila Odinga's brother Oburu Oginga withdrew his application expressing interest in the position on Monday.

Mr Jakakimba who spoke to journalists in Sori township of Migori County said he is confident the party will consider his candidature.

The new twist comes barely a week after the nomination of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s son – Mr Kennedy Musyoka – and Raila Odinga’s brother Oburu Odinga was terribly thwarted by the National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale.

Duale, pointing at nepotism in ODM, vowed to suppress the efforts of the duo to join EALA. He vowed to move a motion to stop the move.

Mr Jakakimba was a personal assistant to Raila Odinga while he was the Prime Minister between 2008 and 2013.

In 2013, he vied for the Migori senatorial seat after an endorsement from the Suba community supported by governor Cyprian Awiti. He was floored by the incumbent Dr Wilfred Machage.
