Elections case against Former Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga, Fred Outa, Joachim Oduor and 2 others dismissed

A Kisumu court has thrown out an election case against former deputy governor Ruth Odinga, who is the sister to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Ms Odinga along with Kondele MCA Joachim Oketch, Kisumu Senator Fred Outa and two others were accused of, among other charges, malicious damage to property.

The case was dismissed after nine witnesses who were lined up by prosecutors failed to appear in court.

Ruth Odinga versus IEBC

The politicians were formally charged following an incident that took place in Kisumu County during preparations for the October 26, 2017 repeat presidential election.

Rowdy youth associated to the politicians disrupted an IEBC training session and damaged chairs and tables valued at Sh92,200 belonging to private company.

Ms Odinga and her co-accused were charged with incitement, disruption of IEBC training, entering an electoral centre without authority and obstructing an election officer from executing lawful duties contrary to Election Offences Act.
