Another notable name picked by ODM is that of Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) secretary general Wilson Sossion.

Sossion's presence at the Tuesday launch of the Nasa manifesto raised a eyebrows as political pundits posed the question whether the Knut leader had crossed over to politics.

Others picked by ODM for nomination to parliament are Denitah Ghati, Seth Kakusye Mutua, John Ketora, the Orange Young Democrats League official and Asha Abdi from Isiolo County representing the marginalised groups.

Beatrice Kwamboka Makori, Masitsa Ndombi Shiyonga, Rebecca Lowoiya, Fatuma Abdi Jehow and Harold Kimuge Kipchumba have been nominated by the Orange Party to the Senate.

The list has already been submitted to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for nomination to the National Assembly and Senate.

In a letter, ODM said that it received more than 62,000 applications for nominations but could only nominate those within the constitutionally available slots.

Duale, the National Assembly Majority leader has been at the forefront accusing Nasa leaders of nepotism over their selection of members nominated to join the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Duale had threatened to mobilise legislators across both sides of the political divide to reject the names of Nasa flag bearer Raila Odinga’s brother Oburu Odinga and running mate Kalonzo Musyoka’s son Kennedy Kalonzo to represent Kenya at Eala.

Oburu later turned down the offer and instead said he would concentrate his efforts in campaigning for Raila to become Kenya's next president.
