Police have fired gunshots in the air to disperse a rowdy crowd after nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro stormed ODM offices at Orange House, Nairobi.

Ongoro, who announced that she had ditched ODM after the Party leader issued direct tickets to candidates, arrived in the company of youth who were chanting her name.

She claimed that there was a plot to bar her from vying for Ruaraka parliamentary seat after incumbent Tom Kajwang’ was handed a direct nomination by ODM.

The nominated senator, who is yet to announce her new party, ditched ODM citing frustrations from the party with less than four months to the general elections.

Last month, Ongoro was barred from contesting for Ruaraka parliamentary seat in an apparent disciplinary action after her supporters fought with those of area MP Kajwang in Nairobi.

Two people were killed in the skirmishes in Ruaraka after the rival supporters clashed in Utalii ward.

Ongoro won the Kasarani parliamentary seat in 2007 on an ODM ticket. She also served as an assistant minister in the coalition government and was ODM party’s deputy secretary general.
