Kalonzo statement on Raila causes panic

Kalonzo made the controversial statement during a rally in Narok County.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka addresses a past rally at Kimera Shopping centre in Nyamira County.

During a campaign rally at Enoosaen town in Narok county, Kalonzo said Kenya will collapse if Raila is touched.

"Raila is a presidential candidate just like President Uhuru Kenyatta. If you want Kenya to collapse, try and touch Raila,” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo was reacting to calls by Jubilee leaders for the arrest of Raila over alleged inflammatory remarks he made during a recent campaign tour in Kajiado.

Raila urged members of the Maasai community to desist from selling land to outsiders.

The Nasa leader said the habit was plunging the community deeper into poverty.

In an apparent swipe at the government, Kalonzo said that there were spies sent to record what the opposition was saying in their rallies.

"There are those who have been sent here to record what we are saying. Let them record this properly take it to the Internal Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery,” Kalonzo said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta later accused Raila of inciting Kenyans to violence ahead of the August 8, 2017 General Election.

Last week, The Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko, said a probe has been launched over the alleged hate speech and incitement to violence allegations against Raila.

Tobiko said his office, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) had started a joint probe and a report on the investigations is expected to be out soon.

However, Opposition legislators have dared the government to arrest Raila over alleged hate speech and incitement remarks.

Led by Siaya Senator told the government to go ahead and 'test the anger Kenyans have on Jubilee leadership’ by arresting Raila.

He said Kenyans will not sit back and watch as Raila who fights for their rights is arrested and taken to prison.
