Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has sparked more anxiety in the National Super Alliance (NASA) after announcing that ODM leader Raila Odinga must be made the coalition flagbearer.

Speaking after Palm Sunday service at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Kibera, Kidero stated that only Odinga could trounce President Uhuru Kenyatta in the upcoming polls.

The Governor warned that if the former Prime minister was not made NASA flagbearer, they would lose the August 8 election to Jubilee.

His sentiments were echoed by Kibra Member of Parliament (MP)  Ken Okoth who stated that NASA co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula should step down for the former premier."People are saying that no Kalonzo no NASA what they need to know is that no Raila no NASA victory," the legislator said. The announcement by ODM leaders comes after the NASA technical committee proposed Odinga to be the coalition flagbearer while Kalonzo his running mate. However, Kalonzo and Mudavadi team have dismissed the report stating that only the principals would name the presidential candidate.

Earlier, National Assembly Minority Leader Francis Nyenze had warned that Wiper would bolt out of NASA if Kalonzo was not made the coalition flagbearer.

“This is no longer a request. We are not begging, it is a demand we are making. It is either Kalonzo or there will be no NASA, at least not including the Wiper party,” the Kitui West MP warned. Wiper wants Odinga to adhere to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2013 where the Opposition leader was to become a one term president and back Kalonzo in 2017.
