The two, who were said to be seeking ODM leader Raila Odinga's blessings, disagreed over who would address the crowd.Trouble began when Mr Ali headed towards Odinga on the podium as he prepared to address the gathering.

Mr salim walked in the former journalist's way and pushed him away as he tried to snatch the two microphones he had from him.Mr Salim's supporters booed the former journalist and pelted him with water bottles to prevent him from addressing the crowd.This forced the ODM supporters to scamper for safety as supporters clashed in front of the Opposition leader throwing the forum into a limbo. With the turn of events, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho was forced to end the meeting prematurely."Basi sasa tunamaliza mkutano wetu hapa. Kwisha sasa, Wacha watu waende nyumbani  loosely translated (We will end our rally here. It is over let people go home now,” Joho was quoted by the Nation.

The Governor took the opposition leader and accompanied him down the podium as supporters scampered for safety.Earlier, ODM leaders in the region declared Coast an Opposition stronghold. Joho announced that the Orange party would not accept rigged elections. The Governor and his counterpart Amason Kingi stated that the former Prime Minister was the best candidate among the for NASA principals to defeat President Uhuru Kenyatta during the August 8 elections.
