Nasa MP in police custody over death threats

The MP was accused of threatening to kill her rival's supporter.

Kilifi woman rep Aisha Jumwa with Cord Leader Raila Odinga, Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo and Goveror Amason Kingi at a past reception in Malindi airport.

Jumwa allegedly threatened Ezra Bidii who later recorded a statement with the police saying his life was in danger.

Bidii claimed that Jumwa vowed, at different campaign meetings, that she would ‘do away with him’ after he shifted loyalty to Mtengo

Confirming the incident, Malindi DCIO Anthony Sunguti said they summoned Jumwa immediately the complainant filed a report and that they had launched investigations.

However, Jumwa on her part denied the allegations, urging the DCI to conduct thorough probe into Bidii's claims.

Jumwa says Bidii must produce compelling evidence that would implicate her in the death threats.

The woman MP asked those spreading the false claims to provide proper evidence.

"I don't have to kill Bidii to make it in politics. I have requested the DCIO to conduct thorough investigations," she said.

Jumwa garnered 8,436 votes against Mtengo’s 3,758 in the April Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) primaries.
