Uhuru's rally disrupted, 1 shot dead

Supporters of three governor aspirants in the county clashed prompting police to shoot in the air to disperse the crowd.

Trouble started the moment President Uhuru’s convoy made its way to the town with supporters of each aspirant engaging each other giving police a hard time controlling them.

All the while the aspirants sat quietly and watched hoping to emerge victories and show president Uhuru who was the kingpin of the region.

As a result of the clash, one person was shot dead by the police  and several others were injured.

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and area MP Joseph Samal tried in vain to plead with residents to calm down with no success.

According to police reports, supporters of Abdul Bahari (Jubilee), incumbent Godana Doyo - who defected to the Party for Democracy and Reforms, and Senator Mohamed Kuti (Independent) engaged each other at the Isiolo stadium rally.

The President arrived in the middle of the fracas also tried in vain to calm down the youths.

On several occasions, president Uhuru had to pause and plead with the youth to calm down with no success.

He finally opted to ignore them and addressed the rally hitting at the NASA brigade for polarising the country.

Isiolo referral hospital medical superintendent Stephen Kiluva told the media Mohammed Huka was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital after succumbing to bullet injuries.

Kiluva added another man was admitted to the hospital after he sustained serious head injuries.

It is not clear if the police would hold the aspirants accountable for the death and the injuries caused during the commotion, since they also carry responsibilities in how their  respective supporters conduct themselves.
