Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Murkomen files petition against Uhuru over Kimwarer dam

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday filed a petition challenging the decision made by President Uhuru Kenyatta on the Kimwarer dam project.

The petition, sponsored by two residents of Elgeyo Marakwet was forwarded to the Senate requesting an investigation into the report which informed the President's decision.

The petition also sought to have Senate prevent any action on the committee's report until its investigations are completed.

"Your humble petitioners pray that the Senate do everything under the law to ensure that the Report of the technical committee is not implemented until such time that the Senate will have determined that the said Committee is legally constituted and their actions determined to be fair and justifiable," the petition read in part.

Why Uhuru cancelled Kimwarer dam project

President Kenyatta cancelled the Kimwarer dam project after a committee report indicated that feasibility tests had revealed it was not viable.

The committee further found that it cost had been dramatically inflated and concluded that it could have been a siphoning scheme hatched by corrupt individuals.

Murkomen has maintained that the project would have been beneficial to the people he represents.
