His mother Mrs. Rosa Kosgei who attended the court session promised to ensure that he attends all court sessions and made a commitment to pay the money should her son fail to do so.

The court established that in July 2008, he hit and caused death to a man identified as Andrew Cheruiyot along the Mogotio-Marigat road.

Principal Magistrate Bernard Mararo directed that the money be paid within 10 days to the mother of the deceased Chebet Kotete.

The court spared Kipkoechwhose father Bishop Jackson Kosgei was recently nominated to the East African Legislative Assembly a jail term for the same offence.
