Mr Warui will be replacing former Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe who resigned to join Vivo energy.
The new MD, Mr Warui who has worked at the bank for 21 years and he holds an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
Igathe will be leaving Equity Bank at the end of August to a new role at Vivo as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Africa.
“The Board thanks Mr Igathe for his dedicated and impactful service to Equity and wishes him well in his new role with one of the Equity’s most valued partners and look forward to deepening the existing relationship across the continent,” a statement read.
Luck landing with top jobs
Igathe was named as Equity Bank’s Chief Commercial Officer in May 2018. The appointment came four months after he quit as Nairobi Deputy Governor citing lack of trust from governor Mike Sonko.
He was promoted to the Equity MD position in September.
Igathe was the Vivo Energy Kenya MD before resigning to join politics. His latest move sent Kenyans on Twitter into a frenzy with many terming him a lucky guy whom “employment looks for.”
He has worked with Coca-Cola, Africa Online, Kenya Breweries Limited and at Haco Tiger Brands among others.
