Family of 5 perishes in mysterious fire incident
All 5 family members were burnt beyond recognition
The family comprising of a man, his wife and their three children aged between three months and 13 years, were asleep in their wooden house in Geta-bushi village when the fire broke out.
According to officers who reported to the scene, the cause of the fire could not be immediately established.
Attempts to Save the Family
Kipipiri OCPD Charles Rotich confirmed that the incident took place at around 3 a.m. as neighbours reported hearing a loud bang from the house at the same hour.
"It was a very sad incident as we could hear them cry for help while stuck inside the house.
"All we could do is fetch water from a nearby well and try to bring it down," Jack Mungai, one of the neighbours relayed.
OCPD Rotich added: "They reported to us that they heard loud noises from the house only to see a huge fire when they arrived at the scene.
"The fire was escalated by the winds from the Aberdare Forest such that they could not bring it down in time," Rotich speculated.
The police took the charred remains of the family members to a mortuary with no additional casualties reported.
