History made as the Somali community elects their first female MP
The wind of change has blown into the Somali community…
Hon Abdi Aden came in third with 5141 votes for the Ijara MP seat.
Following the election of Sophia Abdi Noor, many women in the Somali community believe that she will bring great change in the Somali community and a win for Sophia is a win for all Somali women.
One Somali lady by the name Amina Mahboub wrote “Ijara constituency has made history by electing the first Somali female Member of Parliament. Incoming MP Hon. Sofia Abdi will be steadfast in challenging the highly intricate patriarchal culture of the Somali community. This win is a win for every Somali woman and girl. A truly inspirational achievement. Kudos to the Incoming MP.”
While social worker Ayanita Darling chimed in with “New dawn for the people of Ijara as they elect Hon Sophia Abdi Noor as the first Woman elected MP in the History of Northern Kenya, flooring a strong incumbent and a pool of another three strong men from the South of Garissa
